    Please come and invite your art, music and dance students to see the Japanese Butoh Dance, performed by Deborah Mauldin, as an interpretation of Susan Perry’s art installation in the Faculty Show at Samford University in Birmingham. The performance will be in the Samford Art Gallery on Wednesday, April 16, 6:00-6:40 pm. Japanese Butoh is a performance art that emerged in the late 1950s that involves the embodiment of the spirit or essence of the subject matter. Performer and teacher Deborah Mauldin has taught at the University of Montevallo for twelve years and presently at UAB. She is the president of the American Dance Guild in New York City. Susan Perry often collaborates with a performance artist for her installation work.

    The University of Montevallo presents the Orchesis Spring 2008 performance on April 17th, 7:00 pm, at Palmer Hall on The University of Montevallo campus.     The BTW Dance Theatre (the performing dance unit of the Booker T. Washington Magnet High School, Montgomery, Alabama) will present it's annual Spring Concert Saturday, April 19th, 2:00 & 7:00, at the Troy University Davis Theatre, Montgomery, Alabama. All tickets are $5.00 and may be purchased at the door. The program is an eclectic collection of ballet, modern, and jazz works choreographed by the Dance Theatre's Directors, Gary Moore and Joy Ohme. Featured on the program will be "Minnie the Moocher," a joint collaboration between the BTW Dance Theatre, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Alabama Council on the Arts. Choreographed by Gary Moore, "Minnie the Moocher" is based on the exciting music Cab Calloway and features twenty dancers in a tribute to this classic 1930's entertainer. Also on the program will be works choreographed by Joy Ohme that also feature both the BTW Strings and BTW Classical Guitar magnets. The Concert will close with an extravagant, albeit "looney", Tropical Extravaganza that features works to music by Manhattan Transfer, Yuma Sumac, and Irving Berlin.
