2007 ALABAMA DANCE FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS


Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Alabama Dance Festival is a statewide celebration of dance held in Birmingham, attracting audiences, performers, teachers and students from across the state. Over 2,000 people enjoy the numerous performances presented during the festival weekend, while dancers and teachers enjoy the many opportunities to take classes and workshops, to network and perform. From the dance enthusiast to the professional dancer or teacher - there is something for everyone!

FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE TICKETS

There are three ticketed events for the 2007 Alabama Dance Festival: the “Swing ’N’ Wings” Community Dance, the River North Chicago Dance Company performances and the Alabama Dance Showcase. Tickets are available to the general public through the Alys Stephens Center Box Office at 205-987-ARTS. The registration fee for all the two-day Festival tracks includes tickets for River North Chicago and the Alabama Dance Showcase. Tickets are not included for one-day tracks, the Orange Track (Tap) or Yellow Track (Arts Education), or for single class registrations. Tickets may be purchased through the box office.

River North Chicago is co-presented in partnership with the Alys Stephens Center for three performances. Alabama Dance Festival registrants must indicate a 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice preference for attending one of these performances. PLEASE NOTE: It is critical that you register for the Festival by the early registration deadline of December 1 to ensure that you will receive a ticket for River North Chicago! Registrations received after December 1 are not guaranteed a ticket to River North.

FESTIVAL REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES AND WORKSHOPS

Early registration with a reduced registration fee continues until December 1. After the December 1 deadline, the registration fee increases $20. Registration by mail, fax or online registration will continue until Friday, January 5. The online registration site is http://alabamadancecouncil.doreme.org (do not put www.). After January 5, registration will be on site at the Alys Stephens Center’s Odess Theatre on January 12 from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. On-site registration will also be available at Festival class locations on January 13 and 14.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR THE FESTIVAL

Limited financial assistance is available for registration fees (not housing) for the 2007 Alabama Dance Festival. Registrants may qualify for one of the following categories:
• Studio Scholarships - Each studio or dance school with 10 paying students who are registered for a complete track receive one free Festival registration. The dance studio director must submit the list of these scholarship recipients to the Alabama Dance Council.
• Financial Need Scholarships - Dancers registering for a complete Festival track may apply for a scholarship based on financial need. Students must submit a letter of justification signed by a parent and the dance teacher, and a Festival Scholarship Application Form with your Festival Registration Form.

FESTIVAL EXHIBIT HALL
Be sure and visit the exhibit tables in the Odess Theatre at the Alys Stephens Center before and after the River North Chicago performances or during intermissions. The Exhibit Hall will also be the location for Festival registration on Friday evening from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. Exhibit tables are available for $50 on a first come first serve basis. Companies performing on the Alabama Dance Showcase receive a complimentary table.

SPECIAL OPPORTUNITIES
The Festival offers two scholarship audition classes (ages 12-14 and ages 15-up) for summer intensives, workshops or festivals. Possible scholarships include both in-state and out-of-state opportunities! Students must be registered for a complete track (six classes) to register for the audition classes.

The American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive auditions will take place at the Alabama School of Fine Arts on January 13 from 9:00 – 11:00 am (ages 12-14) and 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (ages 15-up). Festival participants may select the ABT audition as one of their classes, but it is not a requirement to register for the Festival in order to participate in the ABT auditions. FESTIVAL HOUSING
The Festival hotel is the historic Tutwiler Hotel. A block of rooms is reserved for the Alabama Dance Festival with a special room rate of $89 per night for singles or doubles (up to 4 people) plus 14% occupancy tax. The room rate includes continental breakfast. Valet parking is available for $8 per day (discounted rate). Free parking is available on the street during evening and weekend hours. Reservations must be made by December 11 to guarantee the Festival rate. Be sure to let the hotel know that you are attending the Alabama Dance Festival when you call to make reservations.
