The Montgomery Ballet is excited to perform at the Montgomery AIDS Outreach (MAO) 21st Annual AIDS Benefit at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. Ginny Smith and Ian Morris, principal dancers of the Montgomery Ballet, will perform the passionate Pas de Deux from Elie Lazar’s Lost, the Story of Carmen. The MAO AIDS benefit takes place Monday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. on ASF’s Octagon Stage. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased by calling the ASF box office at (800) 841-4ASF. The benefit performance will showcase a variety of acts from ASF and other local arts organizations and is being organized by Kim Aycock (ASF Stage Manager) and actor Rodney Clark, who will also direct. ASF favorite Greta Lambert will emcee. The evening will be comprised of a variety of music, dance and irreverent satire performed by ASF company members as well as special guests such as Montgomery Symphony Orchestra Violin Fellow Sun Young Chinn, as well as the Montgomery Ballet and some surprise guests. Commemorating its 21st year, the event is a fundraiser for MAO clinics and services in the greater Montgomery area. Montgomery AIDS Outreach is a private, non-profit, community based AIDS service organization that was established in 1987. It has transitioned from a volunteer education and service organization to a full-time primary care facility. As of December 2006, there were over 8,700 AIDS cases reported in the state of Alabama. This number encompasses people of all ages and races and has transcended the barriers of gender, economic status and sexual orientation. The need for care and attention to this issue is ever-increasing, and MAO and ASF are proud to play a role in supporting those whose lives have been affected by this disease. Come support the Montgomery Ballet at MAO’s AIDS Benefit and enjoy the evening of performances! |
