The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Sports and Exercise Medicine team is proud to partner with the Alabama Dance Council to provide dancer health related information and articles in upcoming publications of Footworks! We hope to provide readers with a wide variety of health information from common foot/ankle injuries seen in dancers, to injury prevention, to nutrition and mental health. Dale Colorado, D.O., M.P.H., and other UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine providers with expertise in performing arts medicine will provide new health articles every month to help you reach your dance and health goals. UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine provides medical care for the Alabama Ballet as well as the UAB Dance and Cheer teams, among other various sports teams. We strive to provide all performing artists with the highest quality of specialized care.
Dr. Steven T. Brown is a fellowship-trained, double board-certified sports medicine physician and the Chief of Sports & Exercise Medicine in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Brown specializes in the non-surgical treatment of orthopedic and sports medicine conditions for patients of all ages and activity levels. Dr. Brown has a special interest in performing arts medicine and previously served as team physician for the 16-time National Champion University of Memphis Pom Squad and as a company physician for Ballet Memphis.
UAB Sports and Exercise Medicine recently opened the newly expanded Sports and Exercise Medicine Clinic at UAB Hospital-Highlands to serve patients of all activity levels. Supported by the Departments of Family and Community Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, this multidisciplinary clinic offers a full spectrum of sports and exercise medicine services, including non-operative and surgical sports medicine. The clinical staff is composed of physicians, registered nurses, certified athletic trainers, physical therapists, radiologists, psychologist and nutritionists, who have years of experience treating high school, collegiate, professional, and adaptive athletes.
